Johnny Depp reportedly asked for “happy pills” and “whitey stuff” from his assistant just days before he allegedly hit his ex-wife, Amber Heard, a preliminary hearing on his libel claim against a tabloid recently revealed.
According to the Daily Mail, The Sun’s publisher, News Group Newspaper (NGN), had asked the High Court to dismiss Depp’s libel lawsuit against the entity because the actor allegedly didn’t disclose proof of his drug use. The “Pirates of the Caribbean” star’s claims stemmed from a 2018 article published by the outlet that referred to him as a “wife-beater,” which was in line with Heard’s assault accusations against him.
Depp has vehemently denied that he hurt Heard and is suing her over her allegations in another case. The trial on his claims against The Sun will be held in London on July 7. It was initially postponed because of the coronavirus pandemic.
NGN’s camp wanted the judge to throw out Depp’s claims on the grounds that the actor deliberately didn’t reveal text messages that show he was trying to get “MDMA and other narcotics” in 2015 while he was in Australia, USA Today reported. Adam Wolanski, a lawyer of The Sun’s publisher, said that their camp had obtained text messages between the actor and his assistant, Nathan Holmes, from Heard’s team.
“May I be ecstatic again?” Depp's text Holmes on March 7 allegedly read.
Wolanski claimed that the actor was referring to ecstasy and that the message meant he was asking for the substance.
Depp also asked for “more whitey stuff ASAP,” which Wolanski insisted must be referring to cocaine. The other texts allegedly showed the celebrity’s exasperation due to his lack of drugs at the time.
“F--king give me the goddamn numbers, I will take care of this s--t, don't bother,” Depp was said to have texted Holmes.
Other texts allegedly revealed that Depp told Holmes he didn’t want anyone lecturing him about his drug use, which, Wolanski said, referred to Heard. The lawyer insisted that these messages were relevant to the case because drugs and alcohol had an influence on the actor’s behavior toward the “Aquaman” star.
However, Depp’s lawyer said that the case wasn’t about the drugs that his client asked for but about whether he “committed serious domestic violence and put Ms. Heard in fear.”
