KEY POINTS

  • "Joker," "Once Upon A Time In Hollywood" leads with three nominations each
  • "Gully Boy" becomes the second Indian movie to get nominated in Foreign-Language Film category
  • "Frozen 2" is the only animated movie to get nominated in two categories

After getting nominations in almost all the major award ceremonies, “Joker” has added one more feather in its cap by getting nominated for three trophies at the 2020 Motion Picture Sound Editors’ Golden Reel Awards.

According to the Hollywood Reporter, the movie directed by Todd Phillips has been nominated for Outstanding Sound Editing – Music Underscore, Dialogue/ADR and Effects/Foley. Even after all the controversies, the movie has been able to garner nominations in all the major awards shows like Golden Globes, Critics’ Choice and Screen Actors Guild (SAG) Awards.

Another movie to get as many nods is none other than Quentin Tarantino’s “Once Upon A Time In Hollywood.” The comedy-drama film has also been nominated for the same categories as “Joker.”

Meanwhile, movies like “Ford v Ferarri,” “1917,” “Jojo Rabbit,” “Rocketman,” and “Avengers: Endgame” have been nominated for two awards each.

Disney’s latest entrant in the billion-dollar club “Frozen 2” is the only animated movie to get noms in two categories. The film has been nominated in the group of the musical and animated feature. The pic will battle it out with “How To Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World,” “Abominable,” “Missing Link,” “White Snake,” and “Spies In Disguise.”

On the other hand, it is a big day for the Indian film industry as “Gully Boy” has managed to get a nomination in the Foreign-Language Film category. The movie will compete against “Parasite,” “Atlantics,” “The Sound Story,” “Shadow,” and “The Fall Of The American Empire.”

The movie directed by Zoya Akhtar is the second Indian movie to get this recognition. Earlier this year, Rajinikanth’s “2.0” was nominated in the same category but lost to Alfonso Cuaron’s “Roma.”

“Cats” and “Star Wars: The Rise Of The Skywalker” are the only two movies to be nominated for the awards even having their premieres.

On the television side, HBO’s blockbuster “Game Of Thrones” and “Vikings” have nabbed three nominations each. The 67th Golden Reel Awards will take place on Jan. 19 at the Westin Bonaventure in Los Angeles.
