  • Jon Favreau revealed they were done with the principal photography for "The Mandalorian" Season 2 before the lockdown
  • Disney CEO Bob Chapek noted that the show will not be delayed
  • The second season will be available for streaming in October 2020

The first season of “The Mandalorian” premiered last year and received universal acclaim. Fans cannot wait for the second season to arrive and see how the story moves forward for the masked bounty hunter. Shedding light on the upcoming season, Jon Favreau, the creator of the show, opened up about how lucky the team was to finish photography before the lockdown.

The ongoing coronavirus pandemic forced a lot of movies and TV series to halt their production to prevent the spread of the disease. Disney had to change its full summer calendar, so that people can see the movies on the big screen. The TV industry was also hit badly by the outbreak. But it seems “The Mandalorian” is one of the shows that will be coming out as scheduled.

While making a virtual appearance at the ATX Television Festival, the 53-year-old filmmaker revealed that the crew had completed filming for the second season before the lockdown was announced and they were able to do all the “editing” through the systems the were set up by the management.

“We were lucky enough to have finished photography before the lockdown. Thanks to how technology-forward Lucasfilm and ILM are, we have been able to do all of our visual effects and editing and postproduction remotely through systems that had been set up by those companies for us,” Favreau said.

Favreau’s comments come a few weeks after Disney CEO Bob Chapek addressed the show’s progress. Speaking in an interview, Chapek revealed that there will be no delay in the series’ release.

“The pre-production stuff can still happen in these times and also the post-production. Take for example, ‘The Mandalorian.’ The show was shot before the COVID-19 really hit and so we have been in post-production and there will be no delay,” Chapek said.

The second season will be available for streaming in October 2020 on Disney+.

The show tells the story of a lone gunfighter (played by Pedro Pascal) who makes his way through the outer reaches of the galaxy, far from the authority of the New Republic.

A lot of notable Hollywood celebrities and filmmakers came together to direct certain episodes of the series. Bryce Dallas Howard, Taika Waititi, Deborah Chow, and Rick Famuyiwa donned the director’s hat for the series.

“The Mandalorian” was a huge success for Disney and currently holds a score of 93% on review site Rotten Tomatoes.
