“Jon & Kate Plus 8” star Jon Gosselin is setting the record straight regarding allegations that he physically abused his and ex-wife Kate Gosselin's 16-year-old son, Collin Gosselin.
The patriarch shared his side of the story to Entertainment Tonight and addressed the claims made by Collin, who penned a disturbing Instagram post early September alleging that Jon punched him in the face and kicked him in the ribs. Jon, however, said that he was merely restraining his son and hadn't expected Collin to call the cops on him.
"It escalated into something, you know, I had to restrain him and I've done that a couple times. I didn't think he would call the police but he wanted to get his way and the police did their investigation and there were no charges or citations filed,” Jon narrated.
A letter from the County of Berks, Pennsylvania Children and Youth Services obtained by ET also confirmed that the child abuse allegation was “unfounded.”
Jon detailed what he had done for Collin over the years, including getting him into school and going to his therapy sessions. But he said he found it strange that his ex-wife has become so worried “about a child she doesn't even talk to.”
“I mean, I find that interesting, so everyone can make their mind up of what she's trying to do,” Jon told ET of his ex-wife, whom he claimed hasn't spoken to their son in five years.
Kate recently backed up their 16-year-old son's accusations and claimed in a People report that Jon was a “violent and abusive person.”
Before moving in with Jon, who was granted physical and legal custody of the teen after Kate failed to show up to the hearing, Collin was put in a two-year program for children with special needs. In 2016, Kate told outlets that this decision was made in accordance with doctors’ advice.
However, Jon said that it was a misdiagnosis and that putting Collin under that program was against his will. Since getting his son out of the place, the boy has been living with him.
“I've integrated him into public school. He has a 3.9 GPA, he missed school for three years and got caught up in all schoolwork, he has a full-time job -- he works on a farm,” Jon said.
Collin’s “main disability is PTSD” that “stems from the abuse of his mother,” Jon said, who added that he has evidence to back this claim up.
As for his ex-wife, with whom he parted ways in 2009, Jon said he suspects that Kate may be trying to create a buzz because she wants to make a television comeback after “Kate Plus 8” ended in 2017. But he confirmed that he doesn’t have the same plans and is content with his IT job.
