Jon Jones vs. Daniel Cormier? Dana White Hints 'Working' On 3rd Fight

UFC president Dana White would like to see a third fight between Jon Jones and Daniel Cormier and even hinted he was working on it.

Jones and Cormier have fought twice in light heavyweight title fights, with the former winning on both occasions, first by unanimous decision back in 2015, and the second via knockout in last year's rematch at UFC 214, though both fights were competitive.

However, Jones tested positive for turinabol after the rematch and was stripped of his title as well as indefinitely suspended. Cormier's loss, on the other hand, would be overturned into a no contest, with him being reinstated as champion.

"DC" would go on to defend the title against Volkan Oezdemir before defeating Stipe Miocic to win the heavyweight title and become just the second simultaneous two-weight champion in UFC history. He is now in line for a lucrative super fight with Brock Lesnar.

Meanwhile, with Jones failing his second drug test, fans and fighters have called into question the legitimacy of his wins over Cormier. But after recently getting cleared by the United States Anti-Doping Agency (USADA) to fight at the end of October, many are pining for a trilogy fight between the two, especially after the recent interactions on social media.

And according to White, the fight could happen, most interestingly, at heavyweight.

"The hatred is real with these two, man. It's unbelievable," White told TMZ when asked if a trilogy fight could happen. "I would like to see it, I think the fans would like to see it. What would be interesting is, we might see it at heavyweight!"

White was then asked if he was working on making another rematch between the pair.

"I'm always working on making everything happen," he added with a laugh before talking about whether it could happen before Cormier's slated fight with Lesnar in 2019. "Listen, I'm going to do whatever DC wants to do. Daniel Cormier has been an incredible champion for us, he's an incredible human being, he's a stud, and I'm going to do everything in my power to keep that man happy."

Ideally, it would have been preferable for Jones to return at Madison Square Garden next month when UFC 230 takes place Nov. 3, especially as there is no main event yet despite Nate Diaz and Dustin Poirier's claims.

However, White previously claimed the Endicott native would only fight later and recently revealed he was working on another Jones rematch, but with Alexander Gustafsson at UFC 232 on Dec. 29 in Las Vegas.

Jones though, seems to prefer a fight with Cormier based on his recent interactions and Gustafsson for one, is not pleased.

The two fought in what many consider the greatest light heavyweight title fight of all time at UFC 165 back in September 2013. Jones ended up beating Gustafsson via unanimous decision but many felt the Swede had won the fight as well.
