Jorge Masvidal KO's Ben Askren In 5 Seconds, Says He 'Needs To Get Paid'
UFC welterweight top contender Jorge Masvidal has set the fastest knockout in UFC history after he finished Ben Askren in 5 seconds.
UFC 239 will surely go down as one of most historical events the promotion has ever made possible. Aside from UFC light heavyweight champ Jon Jones and UFC Women’s bantamweight champ Amanda Nunez, welterweight sensation Jorge Masvidal has also made a statement by knocking out Ben Askren in a record-setting 5 seconds, MMA Junkie reported.
Masvidal and Askren have been under each other’s skin ahead of their much-awaited fight but none of the trash-talking seemed to matter for Masvidal when they finally set foot together inside the octagon.
The 34-year-old veteran fighter literally wasted no time as he finished the fight in just five seconds to own the UFC’s fastest knockout victory of all time. Masvidal was caught by the media backstage just moments after his historical victory and appears to be not too overwhelmed by his recent accomplishment and has clearly stated his priorities.
In his UFC backstage interview, Masvidal said that none of the verbal insults of Askren has gotten into his head and emphasized that the former One Fighting Championship champ’s skill set is “not on his skill set.” The former Bellator star also stated that Askren did not bring anything to the table and is far from his level as a fighter.
Masvidal also clarified that he does not want to talk about the record-setting win he just owned, but instead he will let the fans do the talking. This is also what he wants to happen with regards to what would happen next for him in the UFC, which is likely the UFC title fight against the current UFC welterweight champ Kamaru Usman.
“The champ and his manager said I deserve the next title shot after this performance. I don’t wanna say nothing, I let the fans do the talking,” Masvidal said.
Masvidal then continued by emphasizing that the negotiations will definitely come next and he will surely get paid because of his performance and the hard work he has been putting into his fights under the promotion.
“I’m gonna get paid because I do bring in,” Masvidal said.
The record-holder even mentioned what he needs to get paid for and emphasized once and for all that he “needs to get paid.”
"Its time for me to make some money, I got children, they’re gonna go to universities,” Masvidal said. “Mark my words, I need to get paid!”
