  • Spurs’ Jose Mourinho showed concern regarding Harry Kane’s minutes in the UEFA Nations League
  • Mourinho doesn’t want Kane to be worn down as a member of the England national team
  • The Spurs will face West Ham United in their next match on Sunday

Tottenham Hotspur manager Jose Mourinho is not happy about Gareth Southgate’s strategy regarding Harry Kane, a report said. The England coach intends to start Kane in their next matchup against Denmark, a move that has been met with disapproval from the Spurs boss.

Mourinho urged Southgate to utilize Kane without wearing him down too much in the UEFA Nations League, The Guardian reported. This is due to the high workload that is expected from the 27-year-old in the Spurs’ season.

Throughout the current Premier League, Kane has been one of the more reliable players for Mourinho’s squad, Goal reported. In one of their more recent matches, Kane tallied a brace in the Spurs' 6-1 drubbing of Manchester United.

Concerns regarding Kane’s fitness also increased, with reports indicating the forward suffered from muscle fatigue last week. This resulted in Kane taking two days off to rest and recover.

“Medically, there’s been conversations [with Spurs],” Southgate said.

“He started to train on the Wednesday, was a little unhappy with how he felt, so then worked with our medical team the next couple of days. We scanned just to be certain but it’s a muscular fatigue issue rather than an injury so it just needed a bit more confidence,” he continued.

The England national team coach is looking forward to Kane’s full recovery in the near future.

“He knew by then he could push on a little bit but he just needed a bit more confidence in it and so his training week really wasn’t suitable to start [against Belgium]. I think he’ll have gained more confidence from the spell he had [as a substitute] and so, all being well, we hope he’ll be good to start on Wednesday,” Southgate added.

In Kane’s career, he’s served as one of the best players on the field. In 295 appearances with the Spurs, he’s tallied 196 goals and made 37 assists. He has suited up for 48 games for the England national team since 2015 and scored 32 goals.

The next matchup for the Spurs is on Sunday against West Ham United at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in London.
