  • Son Heung-min is likely to miss Tottenham's Carabao Cup match with Chelsea
  • Jose Mourinho says injuries may continue to plague his squad
  • Mourinho is keeping the faith in Tottenham

Tottenham is struggling to get its act together and it appears the road ahead is not about to get easier. The Spurs saw Son Heung-min go down with a hamstring injury against Newcastle United, and Jose Mourinho said it was not insignificant.

Son was taken out during halftime of that match, which ended in a 1-1 draw, Goal reported. He was replaced by Steven Bergwijn in the second half. The match was not spared from controversy when Callum Wilson tied the game on a penalty at the 97-minute mark. The penalty was a result of a handball by Eric Dier following a VAR check.

The injury of Son is untimely considering Tottenham is in for a tough grind. The club will go up against Chelsea FC on Tuesday in the Carabao Cup and then host Maccabi Haifa in a Europa League playoff encounter. They wrap up that stretch hosting Manchester United on Oct. 4.

Injuries have been a big problem for the Spurs, and Mourinho admitted he would not be surprised if more come their way. With a rigorous schedule ahead, he is aware that other players could get bitten by the injury bug, Sky Sports reported.

"He [Son] is just the first one," Mourinho said. "I imagine Tuesday, Thursday another one, Sunday a couple more, but this is the respect Tottenham gets."

Regardless of what lies ahead, Mourinho is unfazed by the challenges. He knows he has his work cut out for him as the Spurs try to get its act together. The only thing certain now is that he has no plans of giving up and that he will try to lead the club for the passion and love of it.

"I love the club and love to be here. I don't see myself leaving and going to another club because I love it so much, but I realize now the difference between clubs with a big history and not," Mourinho said.

As for personnel, Tottenham could try and check the market for available players. One name that has been linked to Hotspur is Milan Skriniar. The transfer deadline is on Oct. 5, meaning Tottenham has enough time to possibly work out a deal for the Slovakian or other available players, The Guardian reported.
