  • Jose Mourinho has reacted to Spurs' 1-6 win over Manchester United Sunday
  • Harry Kane and Son scored a brace each for Spurs at Old Trafford
  • Bruno Fernandes was Man Utd's lone scorer

Tottenham boss Jose Mourinho said it was an "honor" to defeat Manchester United at Old Trafford in the Premier League Sunday.

Mourinho, who managed Manchester United between 2016 and 2018, returned to Old Trafford and humiliated his former club as Tottenham thrashed The Reds Devils 1-6 and as a result, Man Utd dropped to 16th place in the Premier League points table.

The 1-6 loss to Spurs was not only the heaviest defeat the side has suffered since Ole Gunnar Solskjaer took temporary charge in Dec. 2018 but also the largest the club has tasted since Ed Woodward took over as executive vice-chairman in 2013.

"To win 6-1 against Manchester United at Old Trafford is an honor for all of us, considering the dimension of Manchester United and Old Trafford. The pleasure is not the 6-1, the pleasure is the performance and three points which we really need after losing points at home against Newcastle. The target, the objective is every match we go to win. I told the players in the last couple of days 1000 times a good result at Old Trafford is to win. Of course, if you draw it's not a bad result but that's the kind of mentality we must get. It was a great performance, a great result. We have seven points, so our position in the table is so-so,” Mourinho told BBC Sport in a post-match interview.

Man Utd were 1-2 down when their striker Anthony Martial was slapped with a red card, reducing his side to 10-men even before the half-time break. The French forward was penalized for pulling his hand across Spurs midfielder Erik Lamela's face in reaction to an elbow in his neck.

The hosts scored within two minutes from kick-off, courtesy of Bruno Fernandes' penalty. Two minutes later, midfielder Tanguy Ndombele struck the equalizer after taking advantage of an evident error from Man Utd’s $103 million-skipper Harry Maguire. The captain then conceded a free-kick for a four on Harry Kane, who then chose to simply pass through the gap. Son Heung-Min's pace took him clear of Luke Shaw and Eric Bailey before the Spurs star netted their second goal of the day. It was Son, who then assisted Kane’s goal at the 30th minute.
