'Jose Will Throw You Under The The Bus,' Former Manager Warns Tottenham Players
Former Tottenham boss Tim Sherwood has warned the current Spurs squad to prepare for a new environment as their new manager, Jose Mourinho, will have no problem in "throwing the players under the bus."
Mourinho is known to prioritize the team over individuals and his maiden match as Spurs manager on Saturday showed that. The Portuguese kickstarted his stint as Spurs boss with a 3-2 away win over West Ham.
Seeing a poor start from Spurs on Saturday, Mourinho subbed off Eric Dier after less than half an hour of the whistle as he replaced him with Christian Eriksen.
The former Tottenham player, Sherwood compared sacked Mauricio Pochettino and Mourinho's style of managing players. He said that even when Spurs did not perform well, Pochettino backed them publically, something Mourinho would not do.
"They've got to get used to it, the players. They've got to get used to the dynamics of this type of manager because they've had Pochettino for five years. Even when they weren't playing well, he would protect them publically. Jose will throw you under a bus," Sherwood said in a recent interview.
"I'm not saying it's right or whether it's wrong. Jose Mourinho does not care. He does what he thinks is right for the team, not the individual player. If it means digging a player out in public and using him as an example, he will do that," Sherwood added.
Former Aston Villa boss Sherwood has also sent out a warning to Mourinho saying that even the manager will need to adjust to the working style as he will always be under the watch of Spurs chairman Daniel Levy.
"Also he [Mourinho] needs to get used to the dynamic of going into that training ground every day, Jose, and Daniel Levy is sitting there, in his office because he feels that is the best way that he can win trophies. Why would you change it?" Sherwood added.
"That's his base. He's never had that before. He was saying with Ed Woodward, 'where is he? I never see him'. Well, he's going to see Daniel Levy every single day, because when you go and have lunch, he's going to be sitting there. When you're training, and you look up at that office, he's looking at your training session, not that he knows much about it," Sherwood said.
