It looks like Josh McDaniels will remain with the New England Patriots for at least one more year. The offensive coordinator isn’t expected to get a head coaching job for the 2019 NFL season after the Green Bay Packers reportedly decided to hire Matt LaFleur.

McDaniels interviewed for Green Bay’s open position, and it wasn’t long ago that he was considered to be the favorite to replace Mike McCarthy. The Packers instead chose to go with the Tennessee Titans’ offensive coordinator.

There had been rumors that McDaniels was interested in the Cleveland Browns’ job, but the team hasn’t requested the chance to interview the Patriots’ coach. With no other interviews scheduled for the 42-year-old, he likely isn’t going anywhere.

McDaniels passed up the chance to be a head coach a year ago. Shortly after accepting the Indianapolis Colts’ position, he reversed course and decided to return to New England.

The Colts ultimately went with former Philadelphia Eagles’ offensive coordinator Frank Reich, who has led Indianapolis to the divisional playoffs. If the Colts and Patriots both win in the second round, McDaniels and New England will take on Reich and Indianapolis in the AFC Championship Game.

McDaniels posted an 11-17 record as the Denver Broncos’ head coach from 2009-2010 in between stints as New England’s offensive coordinator. He could be one of the hottest head coaching candidates next year.
