Former boxing heavyweight Anthony Joshua is set to face Oleksandr Usyk in a rematch next year, and some believe it is a bad idea.
When asked about the Joshua vs. Usyk rematch, Danbury-based promoter AJ Galante believes it may a bad idea if it were to be held now.
The 34-year-old businessman feels that the outcome would still be the same when he appeared on the Sports For All PH podcast hosted by Filipino journalists Vincent Juico and Brian Yalung.
“If it was me, if I was guiding his career, I don’t think I would take the rematch. I don’t think anything is going to change. I think what they need to do with him in my opinion is really take a step back and look at his training camp and figure out how we can adjust what we are doing here, and maybe find another opponent for him. A top-level guy that maybe he can do stylistically better against,” Galante said.
Galante pointed out how Joshua became an easy prey for a smart and technical pugilist like Usyk.
“Anthony Joshua is a good fighter, but he needs to switch up what he’s doing. I think he is too bulky, he’s got too much muscle. I understand that as a heavyweight you need to be strong. but he is very one-dimensional. I think he needs to move a little better, work on his defense. But he can still do some big things moving forward. I hope he can recover from it,” Galante explained.
However, it appears Joshua is determined to make the rematch happen and reclaim his belts.
Should the 31-year-old Brit boxer lose anew, Tyson Fury has urged Joshua to consider to hang up the gloves for good.
“I think if he doesn’t beat Usyk in his rematch, I think he’s finished, retire, done,” Fury said to Boxing Social. “He needs to win that fight, no matter how he does it.”
