  • Jude Law found Warner Bros. decision to remove Johnny Depp from "Fantastic Beasts" unusual
  • "The Holiday" star confirmed that Depp only filmed for a day for the next movie
  • Law explained that the studio and the company make the big decisions

Jude Law got candid about Johnny Depp's departure from the "Fantastic Beasts" franchise.

Depp played the role of Gellert Grindelwald in the fantasy series, but the studio decided to recast his role. His co-star, Law, who plays Albus Dumbledore, has opened up about Depp’s exit from the project.

"It's an enormous film, and there are many, many layers to it. It's probably one of the biggest productions I've ever worked on," he told Entertainment Tonight.

"And in a situation like this, you defer to the studio. That's all you can do. Because you have to turn up and play your part. It was unusual for me because, in fact, on this particular role. Johnny had actually only done a day's filming, I think, on his own."

"The Holiday" star also explained that they are just part of a big team and they are not involved in the decision making. So, they have to cooperate.

"In a franchise like this, it's the studio and the company that make the big decisions. And you have to go along with those, because we're just a member of the team," he added.

Depp announced two weeks ago that Warner Bros. asked him to resign from the "Fantastic Beasts" franchise after he lost his libel case against The Sun. He made the announcement in a post on Instagram.

"I wish to let you know that I have been asked to resign by Warner Bros. from my role as Grindelwald in 'Fantastic Beasts' and I have respected and agreed to that request," he wrote.

In his message, Depp thanked everyone who supported him all the way and assured them that despite his loss in the U.K., he will continue his legal battle. He also confirmed his plans to appeal.

"My resolve remains strong and I intend to prove that the allegations against me are false. My life and career will not be defined by this moment in time. Thank you for reading," he concluded.

The studio's move received intense backlash from Depp’s supporters who asked to also remove Amber Heard from the “Aquaman” franchise because she also abused Depp. The actress admitted in a leaked audio recording that she hit Depp.

“Johnny Depp is asked to resign as Grindlewald but Amber Heard, who has significant amount of evidence to point her has the perpetrator of domestic abuse, is still in Aquaman? Oh, double standards,” a netizen wrote.

"Don’t just boycott FB for Johnny Depp, boycott any future Warner Bros movie with Amber Heard in it. Show them not only do we want justice for Johnny Depp, but we want them to do something about HER. ‘Aquaman 2’ is coming and she hasn’t been fired," another netizen stated.
