Judge Grants Bob Saget's Family Permanent Injunction To Block Late Actor's Death Records

Ninth Judicial Circuit Judge Vincent Chiu granted Bob Saget family’s petition to block the release of his death records. The judge’s decision came Monday, nearly a month after the late actor’s family filed a lawsuit to block the release of records related to the investigation of his sudden death.

The former “Full House” star’s wife, Kelly Rizzo, and his three daughters, Aubrey, Lara and Jennifer sued on Feb. 15 the Orange County’s Sheriff and Medical Examiner’s Office and requested that the death records of Saget be exempt from being revealed publicly, citing the graphic nature in how they portray the late actor.

The family also argued that the release of records tied with Saget’s death “would cause irreparable harm in the form of extreme mental pain, anguish, and emotional distress.”

In a statement following the granting of the permanent injunction Monday, their attorney, Brian Bieber, said of the ruling, “The entire Saget family is grateful that the judge granted their request for an injunction to preserve Bob’s dignity, as well as their privacy rights, especially after suffering this unexpected and tragic loss.”

“We are pleased this issue has been resolved, and the healing process can continue to move forward. All of the prayers and well wishes continuously extended to the family are beyond appreciated,” he continued.

Saget, 65, was found dead in a hotel room in Orlando, Florida on Jan. 9. The Orange County Medical Examiner’s Office determined at the time that his passing was accidental and might have been caused by a backward fall.

A toxicology analysis of the actor’s remains found that his death resulted from “blunt head trauma,” ruling the manner of his death an accident not related to illegal drugs. The finding was consistent with his autopsy report, which also suggested that he had severe fractures at the back of his head and around his eyes.

The autopsy also revealed that the actor was positive for COVID-19 at the time of his death and was taking medication for panic disorder and anxiety. He also had aortic atherosclerosis, cardiomegaly, and coronary artery atherosclerosis.
