Julia Roberts On Halle Berry: 'I'm The Prettiest One'

Julia Roberts knows she is a pretty woman, just not the prettiest. The glamorous actress, famous for her signature smile, opened up about what it’s like to be one of Hollywood’s most beautiful women in an interview with InStyle magazine for its September issue. Earlier in her career, she wanted to be on the “hottest celebs in a bikini” list.

"When I was younger, I'd think, 'Oh, I'm the prettiest one. It's not Halle Berry. It's not!' she said. Then the humble actress added, “But it is, you know?" She said it was a “godsend” she was never on one of those lists based on physical appearance. She reasoned it was because she has “always sort of been on the more boyish spectrum of girls.”

Reflecting on her youth, again, Roberts said she never used to put much thought into what she wore when she went to a red carpet event, or even to the drugstore.

"It used to be a friend could call me at 3 in the afternoon and say, 'I have a premiere tonight. Will you come?' And I'd just take a shower and go. I wore a lot of vintage then. I had a navy military jacket and striped leggings I wore all the time.

“Those were the fun old days. People were less judgmental, less searing in their assessment of what you dare wear to the drugstore." Ultimately, the “Erin Brockovich” star gave credit to her stylist whom she “adores,” Elizabeth Stewart. "She brings such great ideas and choices to the table. When I know I'm seeing Elizabeth, I put on the most impeccable outfit. She'll go, 'This is great!' And I'll say, 'I dressed just for you.'"

The September issue of InStyle, which has more than 700 pages, will be on newsstands and available in digital format on Friday, Aug. 15.
