British actor Julian Sands has been missing for several days in the Southern California mountains.
The 65-year-old actor, who starred in the Oscar-nominated film "Room With a View," went hiking in San Gabriel Mountains on Friday and went missing hours later.
Sands was reported missing around 7:30 p.m. Friday in the Baldy Bowl area of Mount Baldy, according to AP News.
"His wife did report him missing," Gloria Huerta, an officer with the San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department, said Wednesday. "From what I understand, he left sometime that day for a hike and when he did not return, his family reported him missing."
Search and rescue crew began searching for Sands in the San Gabriel Mountains area, which was about 40 miles northeast of downtown Los Angeles. Sands has been living in Los Angeles since 2020.
The British-born actor has appeared in a number of movies and television series since the 1980s. With over 130 acting credits, Sands has a net worth is $3 million as of Jan. 9, according to Famous Birthdays.
His career first took off with his supporting performances in the 1984 films "Oxford Blues" and "The Killing Fields."
One of Sands' most notable performances was his lead role opposite Helena Bonham Carter in "A Room With a View" (1985). The James Ivory-directed movie received eight Oscar nominations, including best picture, and earned three wins.
Sands also acted in "Warlock," "Arachnophobia," "The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo," "Leaving Las Vegas," "Naked Lunch," "Boxing Helena," "The Phantom of the Opera" and "The Million Dollar Hotel."
He also had recurring roles in TV series like "Dexter," "A Married Man," "Ghost Whisperer," "Banshee" and "Stargate SG-1, 24."
After he was reported missing Friday, a search and rescue crew "responded and began a search" for the missing actor. However, the ground search came to a halt Saturday due to unfavorable trail conditions and the risk of avalanches. They still continued the search by drone and helicopter, BBC reported.
"We continue to search by helicopter and drones when the weather permits," the sheriff's department said.
The ground search will resume when conditions become safer for the crew, officials added.
"Over the last four weeks, San Bernardino County Sheriff's Search and Rescue (SAR) Teams have responded to 14 rescue missions on Mt Baldy and in the surrounding area," the sheriff's office wrote on Facebook. "These rescue missions have been for lost, stranded and/or injured hikers. Unfortunately, during these past 4 weeks, two hikers did not survive after falling and injuring themselves."
