Julianne Moore and Other Celebrities Wear Orange For National Gun Violence Awareness Day
Friday, June 2 is National Gun Violence Awareness Day. Many beloved celebrities, alongside non-public folk alike, donned orange to raise awareness about gun violence in the United States.
Three years ago, Everytown for Gun Safety launched their campaign to help raise awareness about and working toward eventually ending gun violence. Hadiya Pendleton, a 15-year old girl who shot dead on a playground in 2013, was the inspiration behind the movement.

The organization recognizes that improvements need to be made to prevent gun violence within the United States. Likewise, Everytown "researches a range of vital issues surrounding gun violence, develops data-driven solutions, and works with lawmakers and people" to ultimately save the lives of innocent people. The campaign thrived seamlessly as 30,000 participants joined the initiative within its first year, according to Brit & Co.
Some of last year's celebrity participants included Kim Kardashian West, Barack Obama and Troian Bellisario. One of this year's participants includes Oscar-winner Julianne Moore. The actress also participated in the campaign last year, too.
"When our federal government failed to act I was really shocked and that's when I realized that I was not being a responsible parent or a citizen by not becoming involved in an issue I cared deeply about," Moore told Reuters in an interview.
Moore's daughter also inspired her to become vocal on the controversial topic.
"When the Sandy Hook shooting happened on Dec. 14, 2012, my daughter was 10 and was coming to work with me on a movie set. I asked hair, makeup, crew and other actors, “Please don’t mention this to her,'" she said in a People magazine interview from its most recent issue. "I was going to wait to tell her with her dad. But somebody posted something about it on her monitored Instagram account. She said, 'Mommy, did a bunch of little kids get shot today?'"
