For those who stuck around for the post-credits in “Jumanji: The Next Level,” there was a major game-changer that affects the future of the franchise.

In an interview with CinemaBlend, director Jake Kasdan admitted that he wasn't sure where things stood when it comes to more sequels within the movie's universe, but that he didn't think it would be foolish to consider the possibility.

“I don't know if there'll be another one. We'll have to see what happens with this one. And I didn't want to end this in a way that was dependent on another movie to be satisfying. But that said, you come back to make the second one, you sort of have to at least acknowledge the possibility that… it's foolish not to plan for the possibility that there could be another.”

However, following the events that unfolded in “Jumanji: The Next Level,” it appears the answer is more clear.

Major spoilers for the ending of “Jumanji: The Next Level” are described in detail below. Proceed with caution.

While the last two “Jumanji” films have previously been seen as standalone stories, the ending of “Jumanji: The Next Level” could be something that changes the game entirely, especially if another movie does wind up being made. Following the events of “Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle,” the new film sees the previously destroyed video game actually surviving thanks to Spencer (Alex Wolff). This leads to him and his friends returning to the virtual world of Jumanji, and this time, they are joined by Spencer's grandfather (Danny DeVito) and his former business partner Milo (Danny Glover).

By the end of the film, the kids once again manage to escape and vow never to return to the game again. However, as the kids and others gather at Nora's restaurant, Spencer's mother brings a furnace repairman (Lamorne Morris) into the basement of their house, where the game is all set up. The curious repairman, despite a warning not to touch it, presses the button on the damaged console. The post-credits scene then shows the ostriches from the game running out in the real world, as the kids stand outside Nora's and wonder what is going on.

With this making it seem like the game is now making its way to reality, mirroring the events of the original board game-based film, fans may feel a conclusion about a new film is set, but they will have to wait and see.
