South Korean actor Jung Hae-in, who is known for his roles in “While You Were Sleeping” and “Snowdrop,” is a Korean billionaire at age 33. Here's a look at how he made his fortune.
Eight years into his career as an actor, the Seoul native's net worth stands at approximately $17 billion Korean won or $14 million, according to Celebrity Net Worth.
Jung comes from a wealthy family, with his parents running a hospital in South Korea, according to Insight.co.kr. His third great-grandfather is Jeong Yak-yong, a great thinker of the later Joseon period.
Jung became interested in pursuing an acting career while he was completing his military service, having enlisted at age 21. After completing his military service, he decided to enroll in Pyeongtaek University, where he eventually earned a degree in broadcasting entertainment.
He officially debuted as an actor in 2014 at the age of 26 in the TV series “Bride of the Century.” In the same year, he made his movie debut in the film “The Youth.”
In the early years of his career, Jung made minor appearances in a number of TV series, including “Reply 1998,” “The Three Musketeers” and “Guardian: The Lonely and Great God.”
He became popular in 2017 for his supporting role in the hit series “While You Were Sleeping,” which stars Lee Jong‑suk and Bae Suzy. While the show was airing, Jung's name at one point became the no. 1 most-searched term on a popular Korean search engine.
In the same year, Jung appeared in the films “The King's Case Note" and “Conspiracy: Age of Rebellion” and received praise for his performance as Yoo Jeong-woo in the black comedy series, “Prison Playbook.”
Jung landed his first starring role in the 2018 drama “Something in the Rain” opposite Son Ye-jin. After the series premiered, the actor gained greater recognition throughout Asia.
In 2019, Jung had a main role in the youth film “Start-Up,” playing the character of a school dropout who then ends up in a gang.
In the following year, he starred in the romantic drama “A Piece of Your Mind” opposite Chae Soo-bin, before playing the lead roles in two series in 2021, Netflix’s “D.P.” and JTBC’s “Snowdrop.” The latter drama also stars Blackpink member Jisoo.
Jung has signed on to appear in Season 2 of the Netflix original series.
“I felt a buzzing in my head while watching 'D.P.’ on the day it came out,” he said in an interview with News1, as translated by Soompi. “Since there was so much interest and praise for the drama, I’m looking forward to a second season myself.”
Aside from acting, Jung is also good at painting and singing. He also has a black belt in taekwondo, according to reports.
But while Jung has many skills, acting is still his first love. During his 2019 fan meeting in Manila, Philippines, the South Korean star said he can't imagine doing anything else apart from being an actor.
“I'll always be an actor, no matter what,” he was quoted as saying by PhilStar.
