Justin Bieber Will Walk Floyd Mayweather To Ring As 'Hype Man' For 'Mayweather Vs. Canelo,' Report Says
Pop star Justin Bieber will once again become an honorary member of "The Money Team."
Bieber, 19, will reportedly accompany boxing champ Floyd Mayweather Jr. to the ring in Las Vegas on Saturday night as his so-called “hype man,” TMZ reports. Mayweather is slated to fight 23-year-old challenger Saul “Canelo” Alvarez at the MGM Grand Garden Arena.
The 19-year-old singer was first linked to Mayweather in 2012, when he unexpectedly joined the 36-year-old boxer’s entourage for his match against Miguel Cotto, TMZ reports. Bieber walked Mayweather to the ring before the match, and posed for pictures after the successful title defense with the undefeated boxer and rapper Lil Wayne.
Mayweather and Bieber were later spotted together in June 2012, when the “Baby” singer made an appearance at the birthday party of Iyanna Mayweather, the boxer’s 13-year-old daughter. Bieber stayed long enough to pose for pictures with Mayweather and his daughter.
Bieber may have the honor of accompanying Mayweather to the ring, but his role in the “Mayweather vs. Canelo” fight will be purely cosmetic. At last year's "Mayweather Vs. Cotto" fight, the 19-year-old carried a pair of the boxer’s title belts to the ring, and then watched the bout from ringside.
Most fans hoping to spot Bieber and Mayweather walking out together will likely have to settle for a YouTube video; tickets to “Mayweather vs. Canelo” are selling for as much as $100,000, TMZ notes. The “Mayweather vs. Canelo” Showtime pay-per-view broadcast will air Saturday, beginning at 9 p.m. ET.
