Justin Walters, Army Soldier Accused Of Killing Wife, New York State Trooper At Upstate Residence
An Army soldier was accused of fatally shooting his wife and a New York State Police trooper, who was responding to a call regarding a domestic dispute Sunday night in an apartment in upstate New York, reports said.
Police identified the suspect as Justin D. Walters, 32, who currently serves as an infantryman at Fort Drum. Walters surrendered without incident soon after his wife and the trooper were shot to death. Walters was said to be in custody, according to the New York State Police Superintendent George P. Beach II.
"The suspect, 32-year old Justin D. Walters, surrendered to other State Troopers without incident. Walters is an active duty Army infantryman who is stationed at Fort Drum," Beach said in the statement. Police said they were not sure if Walters had an attorney to comment on his behalf.
Police also mentioned another woman, apart from Walter’s wife, was also shot during the incident; but she did not suffer from life-threatening injuries. The unidentified woman was said to be living in a shed on the property, CBS-affiliate WWNY-TV reported.

Nichole V. Walters, 27, who was identified as Walter’s wife, was found dead at the scene. Beach said NY State Trooper Joel Davis, 36, was responding to a call regarding shots fired shortly after 8 p.m. EDT, and he was walking towards the residence when he was shot.
Davis is survived by his wife and three children and was serving at the New York town of Philadelphia, Beach said. Authorities also said Davis, from Evan Mills, completed his graduation from the Basic School of the New York State Police Academy on May 29, 2013. Before serving at the police barracks in Philadelphia, Davis was assigned to the Troop D Watertown barracks.
In a statement released early Monday morning, New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo said, "the entire New York family grieves" for the state trooper. "Trooper Davis served as a member of the New York State Police for four years and his death is yet another sad reminder of the risks law enforcement officers face each day in order to protect our communities and serve the residents of this great state," the Democratic governor said and expressed his condolences while requesting New Yorkers to pray for the victim’s family and friends.

Walker has pleaded not guilty to the murder charges of his wife and his trial is set to begin on Aug. 8, according to Sputnik News.
In March 2016, a soldier named Skylar Nemetz, 21 , was found guilty of first-degree manslaughter after he shot and killed his 19-year-old wife because he thought she was having an affair. He was upset that another man had brought her alcohol. He also told the court he thought his rifle was unloaded and thus he fired at his wife, according to the News Tribune.
