Juventus May Use $107M Forward In Sensational Swap Deal To Sign Pogba From Man Utd: Report
KEY POINTS
- Juventus are ready to hear offers for Dybala this summer
- The Italian side has labeled Dybala at $107 million
- He scored just 17 goals in the 2019-20 season
Juventus are reportedly planning to offer Paulo Dybala to Manchester United in a swap deal to bring back Paul Pogba to Italy.
After kickstarting his career at Old Trafford, Pogba moved to Juventus in 2012. He scored 34 goals in 178 matches for The Old Lady during his four-year stint in Italy. In the summer of 2016, Pogba returned to Man Utd on a five-year contract at the then-world record fee of $118 million.
Before the coronavirus pandemic struck the soccer leagues across the globe, Pogba had been linked with a move back to Juventus. However, the rumors stopped when soccer resumed in May-June. Along with the likes of Bruno Fernandes, Marcus Rashford, and Anthony Martial, Pogba helped Man Utd improve massively towards the end of the season as The Red Devils finished third in the Premier League table and that meant, they would play the Champions League next season.
It is understood Juventus have told Dybala that he can leave the club if they receive a fair offer this summer. The 26-year-old attacking midfielder was named the MVP of the 2019-20 Serie A season for leading Juventus to their ninth consecutive league title.
However, the club could not replicate the same success in Europe. After Juventus’ Champions League exit earlier this month, the Serie A champions sacked manager Maurizio Sarri and have appointed former midfielder Andrea Pirlo as their new head coach.
Earlier, it was reported that no player at Juventus is safe this summer including Cristiano Ronaldo as Pirlo is looking to revamp the side completely ahead of the new campaign.
However, Italian publication Tuttosport has now claimed that Pirlo is prioritizing Ronaldo over Dybala, who managed just 17 goals in 46 competitive appearances in the 2019-20 season in comparison to Ronaldo’s 37 goals in the same number of matches as the Argentinean forward.
Dybala has two more years left in his current contract with Juventus but is yet to sign an extension. While his agent Jorge Antun has claimed that he is in talks with the club over Dybala’s new deal, the Italian report has disclosed that Juventus have labeled Dybala with a transfer fee of $107 million in the ongoing summer transfer market.
Another Italian media outlet Gazzetta dello Sport has revealed that Man Utd will have to compete with Tottenham in the race to sign Dybala, who is Lionel Messi’s teammate at Argentina national team. Last summer, Dybala was strongly linked with a move to either of these two Premier League clubs. However, the deal fell through when Sarri assured Dybala he was part of his future plans at Juventus.
Moreover, Dybala’s move to Man Utd will also depend on the Old Trafford side’s transfer situation with their top target Jadon Sancho, who is valued at over $140 million by his current club Dortmund. Even though the German side has declared Sancho would stay with them for another season, it is understood that Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is still keen on making this particular transfer happen.
