  • Costa picks Dybala ahead of Ronaldo as Juventus' current best
  • Ronaldo has scored 21 Serie A goals this season to Dybala's 7
  • Ronaldo has so far scored 53 goals for 75 Juve appearances

Juventus midfielder, Douglas Costa could have invited problems for himself after he has picked another teammate ahead of Cristiano Ronaldo as the club’s current best player.

Costa has suggested their team’s best player's title belongs to Paulo Dybala even though Ronaldo is leading Juventus’ goal chart this season with 25 goals under his belt, 12 more than the Argentinean forward. The difference between the two strikers is quite evident in their respective Serie A performances where Ronaldo has netted 21 times, while Dybala has scored just seven goals.

Ronaldo’s dominance in his second season in Italy has helped "The Old Lady" remain on the top of the table, one point clear of Lazio before the season was halted indefinitely by the coronavirus pandemic.

It is understood that Costa has been forced by boss Maurizio Sarri to play second fiddle to Ronaldo as Sarri does not rate the Portuguese midfielder as high as his Portugal skipper.

During a recent Q&A session on Instagram, Costa was asked to pick Juventus’ best player at [resent], to which he responded, "The strongest companion is Paulino, Dybala, then of course also Ronaldo.”

The 26-year-old Dybala is considered among the current best young players in soccer. Last summer, he could have left Juventus as he had come close to a deadline day transfer. Before that, former Premier League champions Manchester United had made advances to sign him, but he chose to remain with the Italian champions in Serie A.

Ronaldo, who moved from Real Madrid to Juventus ahead of the 2018-19 season, has scored 53 goals so far from 75 appearances. It was earlier revealed that Sir Alex Ferguson did not want Ronaldo to move to Real from Man Utd and instead head to Barcelona. However, the Portuguese had then made up his mind to join the Bernabeu side and the rest is history. With Real, Ronaldo went on to win 15 titles in his nine-year stint with them including four Champions League trophies.
