  • Jisung was hospitalized after she fainted on the set of her show, “Ugly Complex”
  • Jisung was the leader of the now-disbanded Girls’ Alert
  • The all-female act split due to financial woes brought by the coronavirus pandemic

K-pop group Girls’ Alert’s Jisung was hospitalized on Sunday after she vomited and lost consciousness on the set of her new show, “Ugly Complex.”

Jisung was filming the web drama “Ugly Complex,” which marks her first foray into acting, at a studio in Mapo in Seoul, South Korea, before she collapsed. The K-pop singer was immediately rushed to the emergency room of a hospital in Sinchon.

In a statement, a source from her management, Roots Entertainment, said Jisung was diagnosed with enteritis.

“The diagnosis was that she had symptoms of enteritis [inflammation of the intestine] but more testing is required for an accurate assessment of her condition,” the insider stated.

The source added that Jisung is recovering after getting treatment and will soon return to the set of “Ugly Complex.”

“Jisung herself insisted that she would return to filming because everyone on set was waiting for her,” the statement continued. “She said she would get an intravenous saline solution and finish what she had to do for the day. She promised to get a more detailed examination tomorrow. She is currently receiving the IV saline solution and is showing signs of recovery.”

Jisung was the leader of Girls’ Alert, a group that ran into financial troubles during the coronavirus pandemic. The five-member K-pop band, whose other members are Seul Bi, Saet Byeol, Goo Seul and Narin, split up in April after their managers were unable to continue paying their contracts.

“We made this decision out of consideration for the members, so that each of them can freely pursue her own individual activities in the future, and we also want to cheer them on in the hopes that they will make fresh starts elsewhere,” their agency said in a statement.

“As for the activities that the group was already carrying out before this announcement, we will do our best to pull them off with the members that are available, so we hope that there will be no confusion,” the statement continued.

The group’s hits include “Dreamgirls” in 2017 and “We Got The Power” in 2019.

Girls’ Alert is not the only K-pop band that has been affected by the coronavirus outbreak.

NeonPunch, a five-member girl group that debuted in 2018, disbanded last week due to the financial crisis brought about by the coronavirus outbreak.

“A100 and the members of NeonPunch worked hard with a goal of making a comeback in May 2019, but due to the worsening economic situation of the agency, as well as the suspension of activities for two members, that date continued to be delayed,” management company A100 Entertainment announced via the K-pop group's Twitter.

“There were many factors this year, including the COVID-19 pandemic, that led us to the conclusion that it will be difficult to maintain the girl group NeonPunch, and the decision was reached for the group to officially disband,” the statement continued.

NeonPunch members May and Dohee had stopped their activities in April due to personal reasons.
