Kaitlin Armstrong Trial Update: Judge Denies Motion To Suppress Evidence, Sets Trial Date
An Austin judge ruled Wednesday that Kaitlin Armstrong, the woman accused of killing pro-cyclist Moriah "Mo" Wilson, will begin trial the week of June 26, 2023, and denied the defense's motion to suppress evidence.
Armstrong, 34, is charged with fatally shooting professional cyclist Moriah Wilson, 25, over a love interest in May. Armstrong is alleged to have killed Wilson after suspecting she was romantically involved with her boyfriend, Colin Strickland.
Armstrong's attorneys filed Frank's Motion in August, a legal proceeding when a judge is asked to determine whether police officers used reckless disregard for the truth when pursuing an arrest warrant.
As reported by KVUE, an ABC affiliate in Austin, her attorneys previously argued that detectives improperly collected some evidence early on in their investigation which should not be admitted during the trial. Among the evidence they looked to exclude included a video of the first interview detectives had with Armstrong before she fled the country.
According to KXAN, an NBC affiliate out of Austin, Judge Brenda Kennedy denied the Frank's Motion on Wednesday and will not allow the suppression of video evidence of Armstrong's initial interview following Wilson's murder.
Kennedy said in court Wednesday that "there was no evidence of any intentional disregard for the truth."
Wilson reportedly met Strickland during a break from his long-term relationship with Armstrong. According to an Austin Police Department affidavit, Armstrong was jealous of the relationship.
Armstrong has pleaded not guilty.
