Kal Penn opens up about his longtime partner Josh and their engagement in his book, "You Can't Be Serious," which is set for release Tuesday.

Actor and former White House staff member Penn, whose real name is Kalpen Suresh Modi, revealed that he has always been "public" with his relationship whenever he would meet anyone in person.

"I've always been very public with everybody I've personally interacted with," Penn told People Sunday. "Whether it's somebody that I meet at a bar, if Josh and I are out or we're talking to friends."

He further shared his excitement about being able to reveal details about his relationship in his book. However, he noted that his partner and family members are "fairly quiet," considering the fact they "don't love attention and shy away from the limelight."

The "Harold & Kumar Go to White Castle" star disclosed that he also reflects on his work life, including his careers in Hollywood and politics, in the book. Moreover, he shared that it also includes information about his love life, particularly how he and Josh met.

"It includes my parents, to the extent that I'm willing to share stories about their upbringing," he added. "So that was the most important thing for me. I wanted my story to be authentic from my perspective and told in a way that makes you feel like you really get to know me."

Penn, who worked under Barack Obama's administration after accepting the principal associate director position at the White House Office of Public Engagement in 2009, recalled that when he first met Josh, he didn't assume things were going to work out between them. It's been 10 years since, and they are still together. In fact, they are already engaged.

The actor will be next seen in the movie "Surina & Mel Light it Up: A Diwali Story," which is directed by Jaffar Mahmood. The film also stars Melanie Chandra, Chris Parnell, Tituss Burgess and Surina Jindal. The movie is slated to release in December 2021.

Penn will also be seen in the movie titled "Something's Wrong with Rose," which is currently under pre-production.
