Kansas City Chiefs News: Safety Eric Berry Expected Back In Practice After Bye Week?
In the wake of their record-breaking 54-51 loss to the Los Angeles Rams (10-1) on Monday night, the Kansas City Chiefs (9-2) will look to rest and reload during their bye week. The team might get one of its star defensive players back after the break, according to CBS Sports' NFL insider Jason La Canfora.
Chiefs safety Eric Berry missed 15 games last year with a torn Achilles and has been kept out of practice this season with a heel injury. The Chiefs reportedly plan to work Berry back into the lineup after the team’s bye, with a possible return in Week 13 against the Oakland Raiders (2-8).
Berry reportedly has a specific type of bone spur in his heel called a Haglund’s deformity. A bone in the heel digs into the Achilles tendon, which can be painful and cause bursitis. The Haglund’s deformity is said to be the reason why Berry has taken so long to get healthy this season.
The All-Pro safety previously made a comeback from Hodgkin’s lymphoma.
Kansas City would like to have Berry back and playing well, as the secondary has struggled mightily in his absence. They give up the most passing yards per game in the NFL, and despite holding running back Todd Gurley to his worst stat line of the season, the defense could not stop quarterback Jared Goff in Los Angeles.
Goff finished with 413 yards, four touchdowns and no interceptions.
