Kansas City Chiefs Will Host Patriots, Texans Or Bills In First 2020 NFL Playoff Game
The Kansas City Chiefs overcame poor odds in Week 17 to earn the AFC’s second bye. As the conference’s No.2 seed, the AFC West champs have three possible opponents for their first game in the 2020 NFL playoffs.
It will be either the New England Patriots, Houston Texans or Buffalo Bills that visit Arrowhead Stadium in the divisional round. Kansas City is scheduled to host a second-round postseason matchup on Sunday, Jan. 12 at 3:05 p.m. EST.
The Tennessee Titans are the only AFC team playing on Wild-Card Weekend that has no chance to take on the Chiefs in the divisional playoffs. Tennessee is the last team to beat Kansas City, defeating the Chiefs in Week 10.
If New England beats Tennessee Saturday night, the Patriots will visit Kansas City. The defending Super Bowl champs are five-point favorites at home against the Titans in the first round, according to OddsShark.
New England was just upset at home, losing to the Miami Dolphins to blow their chance of securing a bye. The Patriots defeated the Chiefs at Arrowhead Stadium in the 2019 AFC Championship Game.
The Chiefs beat the Patriots at Gillette Stadium 23-16 in Week 14.
A Patriots’ loss would mean the winner of Saturday’s game between the Texans and Bills will face the Chiefs. Houston is favored by a field goal at home against Buffalo.
The Texans have proven that they can win at Arrowhead stadium. Houston upset Kansas City 31-24 in Week 6.
Buffalo and Kansas City didn’t meet in the regular season.
The Chiefs ended the season on a six-game winning streak, playing as well as any team in the NFL. Kansas City didn’t give up more than 21 points in any of those victories, holding three of its opponents to single digits.
Patrick Mahomes threw for over 4,000 yards and 26 touchdown passes, despite missing two starts with a knee injury.
