Days after a scandal involving a supposedly insulting coffee cup from McDonald’s, a Kansas police officer has admitted to fabricating the incident. The Herington Police Department has confirmed that an unnamed officer has resigned after admitting the coffee cup he allegedly received with the words “F---ing Pig” written on it was a hoax he orchestrated, according to KSNT in Kansas.

“This was completely and solely fabricated by a Herington police officer no longer employed with the agency,” Police Chief Brian Hornaday said on Monday. “I truly hope the former officer of the Herington Police Department that did this understands the magnitude of the black eye this gives the law enforcement profession from coast to coast.”

Hornaday further explained that the employees at the McDonald's in Junction City, Kansas, had nothing to do with the incident and had cooperated with the department during its investigation. The officer, whose name has not been released by the department, reportedly concocted the situation as a joke. He had been on the Herington police force for two months following a period spent working as a military police officer.

“My McDonald's have the utmost respect for all members of law enforcement and the military and were troubled by the accusation made," Dana Cook, the owner of the Junction City franchise, said in a statement. “We thoroughly reviewed our security video from every angle, which clearly shows the words were not written by one of our employees.”

This incident came mere weeks after an extremely similar one in Glenpool, Oklahoma, on Thanksgiving that was not a hoax. A Starbucks employee was fired for writing “PIG” as the name on an order for a police officer.
