Kansas Hires Charlie Weis as Next Football Coach
Former Notre Dame head coach and current Florida offensive coordinator will be named Kansas' next football coach on Friday afternoon, the school announced on Thursday.
Kansas announced on Twitter that Weis, who had a 35-27 record at Notre Dame, will be introduced as the team's head coach at a Friday press conference.
Weis replaces recently fired coach Turner Gill after spending a single season as Will Muschamp's offensive coordinator. In addition to coaching at Notre Dame and Florida, Weis has coached with the New York Giants, New England Patriots, and Kansas City Chiefs.
Weis is known as an offensive genius for his work with the New England Patriots and quarterback Tom Brady, but has struggled in some recent stints. Florida' offensive struggled mightily at times without a stable quarterback, while Notre Dame never could completely capitalize on all of its highly regarded recruits.
The Shiver reported on Thursday morning that Weis interviewed with Kansas athletic director Dr. Sheahon Zenger on Wednesday afternoon. Weis' contract details have yet to be released.
