Kanye West, Kings Of Leon To Headline Governors Ball In NYC; Festival Expands To 3 Days [VIDEO]

For its third go-around, the Governors Ball Music Festival in New York City promised to expand, and it has delivered. Making a leap from last year's headliners of Passion Pit and Beck, the Governors Ball announced quite the coup Tuesday: Kanye West and Kings of Leon.

The Governors Ball will return to Randall's Island on June 7 through June 9 -- expanding to three days from one in 2011 and two in 2012. Originally held on Governors Island in New York Harbor, the Governors Ball has become one of New York's largest musical events.

In addition to headliners Kanye West and Kings of Leon, the Governors Ball's initial lineup features impressive names from many genres: dance, indie rock, pop and hip hop. It promises a third headliner in addition to Kanye and KOL, so fans should expect even more artists to be added in the near future.

Nas, Pretty Lights, The xx, Cut Copy, Beach House, The Avett Brothers, The Lumineers, Kendrick Lamar, Young the Giant, Feist, Of Monsters and Men, Azealia Banks, Miguel, Dirty Projectors, Alt-J, Japandroids, The Vaccines and Animal Collective are just a few names that will appear at 2013 Governors Ball.

Founders Entertainment, the festival's organizer, promises expanded additions to the art and entertainment aspects of the festival as well as a new layout to maximize the enjoyment of festival goers. Speaking about the 2013 iteration of the festival, Jordan Wolowitz, a Founders Entertainment partner, said, “With the incredible support of the fans, and the artists involved, we are taking the next big step towards achieving this goal. Gov Ball '13 will feature the very best acts in live music over what are sure to be three epic days in June. We can't wait.”

Three-day passes are currently on sale for the festival and single tickets may be available at a later date. With big headliners such as Kanye, who has not played New York as a solo headliner since 2010, and Kings of Leon, who have not played New York at all since 2008, it looks like Governors Ball is on its way to an impressive third term.
