KEY POINTS

  • The Kardashians are finding ways to continue with delivering content for their viewers
  • Kris Jenner, along with the show's executive producer Farnaz Farjam, settled with the family members self-recording their own footage
  • In addition to the curated set inside some of the Kardashian members' homes, a brand new iPhone is dropped off weekly by a showrunner

The Kardashian clan is coming up with ways to continue filming their reality show even if it means having to get new iPhones weekly.

Since the wake of the coronavirus pandemic, television shows and film releases have been halted due to the lockdown. The same fate apparently applies to reality TV series “Keeping Up With the Kardashians” despite the show’s mass appeal.

Kris Jenner and the rest of the Kardashian pack are currently cooking up ways on how to pull through and carry on with filming their fans’ highly awaited content. And in a recent report by Elle, the show’s longtime executive producer Farnaz Farjam already called Jenner to discuss concerns before the global health scare officially erupted.

Farjam and Jenner then began brainstorming for ideas that would allow them to press on with delivering content without jeopardizing the health and safety of those involved in the show. Eventually, the 64-year-old television personality settled with the stars filming the content themselves.

But as for Farjam, who oversees the reality show’s production flow from her home in Los Angeles, the producer told Elle that the whole idea has been a “big to-do,” while noting how the crew is trying to make the switch to self-recording work.

“If Kris gets annoyed and walks out of the camera angle, it's not like we can follow her and continue shooting,” Farjam said during her interview with Elle. “She has to come back onto the screen and explain [why she walked away]. It’s less fly-on-the-wall, because we have to give them direction and they have to be more informative with us… But because this is the Kardashians and they’re entertaining regardless, it will be a fun watch for people.”

"KUWTK’s" executive producer initially proposed that Kim, Kourtney and Khloe Kardashian would record the footage on their personal cell phones then upload them to a shared album. But Farjam and her production team hypothesized that people might get “sick of seeing” low-quality footage, eventually tampering with the show’s high-grossing demand.

And then came Farjam’s follow-up plan where she initiated hiring a director of photography and a technician who donned a “precautionary hazmat suit,” Elle wrote. The hired staff configured brightly-lit rooms in Kim’s personal “minimalist monastery” mansion and in Khloe’s Calabasas home.

KUWTK filming halted

With phone-friendly tripods all set up and cleaned carefully with sanitary wipes, the Kardashian family were allowed to enter the makeshift rooms only after 24 hours just to avoid any potential virus contamination.

To top off the newly curated filming scheme, a safely masked showrunner is assigned to deliver brand new iPhones to their security teams every Monday, while also being tasked to retrieve used phones after the family’s week of filming. The number of hours for filming footage spans a total of 16 hours, with enough leeway for the editorial department piecing together the accumulated footage.

Meanwhile, when it comes to how well the cast cooperates in bringing content, the producer shared how some family members vary with regards to capturing footage. Kourtney, 41, appears to record the least with Farjam revealing that the Kardashian member is currently “trying to take a detox” from her phone.

On the other hand, another Kardashian member seems to be holding up her end of the bargain. According to Farjam, Kim has been very candid about her current stay-at-home life, with the EP teasing that a large amount of the footage will mostly be coming from her home. The 39-year-old mother-of-four has been open about homeschooling her two oldest kids, North and Saint West, with husband Kanye West.

More details are yet to come about the show’s updated content, but for now, fans can keep up with their favorite socialite family here.
