Kate Middleton borrowed Queen Elizabeth II’s stunning earrings.

On Tuesday, the Duchess of Cambridge stepped out sans Prince William to join Queen Elizabeth II, Prince Charles and Camilla Parker Bowles for the NATO reception at Buckingham Palace. Donald and Melania Trump were also present at the event.

Middleton arrived in an elegant green Emilia Wickstead dress. The future queen accessorized her get-up with dangling diamond jewels.

According to Daily Mail, Middleton’s glittering teardrop earrings were among the items from Queen Elizabeth II’s jewelry collection. The monarch was first seen wearing them at the State Opening of Parliament in 2012. However, Middleton has been seen wearing the dangling earrings on several occasions already, most notably at a gala held at Kensington Palace in November 2017.

Her Majesty lends pieces from her personal collection to members of the royal family for state visits and formal occasions. The Duchess of Cambridge is fond of the items from the Queen’s vault because she has been spotted wearing various items from it.

Last month, Middleton borrowed two pairs of earrings for Remembrance Day. The royal mother of three donned the Queen’s pearl and diamond studs when she showed up at the Festival of Remembrance at the Royal Albert Hall. The following morning, she sported the Queen’s Bahrain pearl drop earrings for Remembrance Sunday.

Unlike Middleton, Meghan Markle has not been seen wearing items from the Queen’s vault except for the tiara she wore on her wedding day. According to jewelry experts Lauren Teff and Charlotte Balbier, this could be due to the two duchesses having different tastes in jewelry.

Teff said that the Queen’s collection is more suitable for Middleton who wants more classic pieces and is into “royal traditional styling.” Meanwhile, Markle has her own jewelry collection and prefers contemporary, small and delicate pieces.

“For Kate’s style, she keeps it simple but tends to go a bit more classic with her jewellery, think diamond earrings and pearl necklaces,” Teff explained.
