Kate Middleton Encouraged Brother James To Open Up About His Depression
Kate Middleton’s brother, James Middleton, recently opened up about his battle with depression.
While speaking with Daily Mail, James said that it was his older sister that encouraged him to talk about his struggles publicly so that he could inspire more people.
“Depression is only a small part of the complex jigsaw that is me. Since childhood, I’ve known I was severely dyslexic – both letters and numbers still jump and blur on the page in front of me and some days I have difficulty spelling even the simplest words,” he wrote.
But James said that it was only last year that he got diagnosed with Attention Deficit Disorder (ADD). After his diagnosis, James started to make sense of all his quirks and foibles.
In his piece, the only son of Michael and Carole Middleton also touched on his sister’s royal life. He said that a lot of people asked him if his public profile has made things harder for him and has made him feel more depressed. However, regardless if he is living a public or private life, James thinks that he would have faced the same conditions.
“The answer is, I would. But I wouldn’t have found a voice or an outlet for my story if it hadn’t been for the people I’m related to,” he said.
James went on to say that having a link to the royal family placed him in a position of trust and privilege. He felt the need to speak out so that he could help other people who may be faced with the same problems.
Meanwhile, James’ revelation about his depression and ADD came just days after he was photographed vacationing with his new girlfriend. James joined Pippa Middleton and James Matthews during the New Year’s trip to St. Barts. Spencer Matthews and his wife, Vogues Williams, were also there.
James and his girlfriend Alizee Thevenet were photographed swimming and cuddling during their vacation. And just two days ago, James also made his Instagram account public. Majority of his photos are of his dogs and his outings.
