Her sister-in-law may be the one who receives a large amount of criticism when it comes to the amount of money that is spent on her wardrobe at times, but Kate Middleton is also no stranger to having expensive items on her body either.

According to Express UK, the Duchess of Cambridge is believed to have borrowed a whopping £2 million (or $2.4 million) minimum in the Queen’s jewelry collection. While the Duchess isn’t spending money on the pieces, which are family heirlooms, the sheer amount of money behind the pieces she has worn are worth noting.

The first major piece Middleton borrowed was none other than the Cartier Halo tiara, which she donned on her wedding day to Prince William back in 2011. Jewelry expert Deborah Papas told Express that while it was difficult to estimate the actual value of the elaborate headpiece because it was Cartier, it was likely worth anywhere between “£750,000 and £1,250,000.”

Since then, Middleton has been spotted in other pieces as well, including borrowing the Queen’s Bahrain pearl drop earrings, as well as the Nizam of Hyderabad necklace, which was also created by Cartier. Most frequently, she has been seen wearing the Lover’s Knot tiara, which Queen Mary had created in 1913.

Of course, Middleton also wears other notable pieces which came from Princess Diana’s collection, including the late princess’ own engagement ring, which was given to her when Prince William proposed, as well as her Collingwood Pearl Earrings, which she wore during the Christening for Meghan Markle and Prince Harry’s son, Archie Harrison. That move was heavily criticized, with some accusing her of trying to upstage her sister-in-law at the event by wearing them since Princess Diana had worn the same pair during Prince Harry’s own Christening.

“I think Kate wanted to upstage Meghan. With all the earrings at Kate’s disposal, why did she wear the one that Diana wore during Harry's christening? Personally, I would have given Meghan that earring,” one royal fan stated at the time.

Markle's own earrings at the event also came under fire for the price tag that came attached to them, after she was already facing critiques for other times where she was seen as overspending.

Still, while she may not come under fire as often, that doesn’t mean Middleton has not also been criticized for how much some of the pieces in her own wardrobe have cost over the years. In fact, back in March, she faced intense scrutiny over a coat she opted to wear during an outing with Prince William in Blackpool, where they visited families who were living in squalid conditions due to landlords who hadn’t taken care of their properties.

At the time, the coat she wore was estimated to cost anywhere between £1000 and £2000.
