Eagle-eyed royal fans noticed that Kate Middleton and Meghan Markle didn’t really seem to interact much as they watched their respective husbands compete in a charity polo match at the Bilingbear Polo Club earlier this week. However, a body language expert cautions that the seemingly frosty behavior may have been due to their children, and not a feud.

In a column in the Daily Mirror, body language expert Judi James revealed that both women seemed to be dedicated to their children at the event, which may have played a role in their scarce interaction, even though they were in close proximity to one another at the event.

“With no signs here of any collaboration or teaming-up between Kate and Meghan, it’s clear both women have their hands too full with their children to bother with chats and sister-in-law poses,” she said.

She went on to say that the fact that the Duchess of Cambridge and Duchess of Sussex have children who are at very different stages—Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis are 5, 4 and 1 respectively while Archie is just two months old—is likely what contributed to their not really mixing at the event, because of the different kinds of attention children need at those ages.

“Whereas mothers of toddlers can put them together and watch as they play, Archie is still at the stage where Meghan will be giving him undivided attention while cradling him in her arms,” she said. “She looks besotted with him, kissing his head and lifting him to gaze at his face with undisguised love.”

“Kate, meanwhile, has her entire attention taken by her more mobile children, with even little Louis walking about looking active and confident,” she added.

James also went on to describe the body language each woman exhibited with their kids, showing that they are two different stages of motherhood, which might also explain their lack of interaction.

“Meghan’s body language as a mother currently looks idealistic while Kate is at the active stage of herding and playing with her children, trying to keep them all happy and occupied,” she said.

Of course, the lack of interaction between the women will still likely lead to speculation of them having a feud, especially after photos from Archie’s Christening were released, which had some speculating that Middleton and her husband were uncomfortable at the event and also saw the Duchess of Cambridge criticized for the pair of earrings she chose to wear as well.
