Kate Middleton and Meghan Markle’s engagement photos from 2010 and 2017, respectively, have just been compared.

Jess Sheldon, a journalist for Express, said that the Duchess of Sussex looked elegant in her white coat during her post-engagement appearance with Prince Harry outside the Clarence House. For the official photos, Markle wore a green dress and heels, while the Duke of Sussex donned a blue suit.

In 2010, Prince William and Middleton posed for their engagement photo indoors. The Duke of Cambridge wore a blue suit, while Middleton sported a mid-length blue dress that featured a wrap design at her waist.

Judi James, a body language expert, shared her thoughts on the Duchesses engagement photos and said that Prince Harry and Markle’s snap was different because they were looking straight into the camera.

“The eye contact has gone again with this pose, which has Harry looking off out of shot although wearing the smile of a guy who can’t quite believe his luck while Meghan announces her acting credentials by pinning the camera bang-on with a bright, excited eye expression and a perfect smile,” she said.

James also said that Prince Harry looked a bit awkward when he placed his hand on his own hip. Markle, on the other hand, positioned her legs straight making her look extremely confident.

“The more flirty, sexual, and tactile side of the relationship is obvious from the way Meghan has pressed her torso into Harry’s,” she said.

Meanwhile, James said that Prince William presented Middleton in a formal royal style and with very little body language clues to suggest anything about their real feelings for each other.

“It appeared to be a meeting of near-equals, with the pair standing side by side with mirrored, front-facing torsos and some eye-to-eye gazing,” she said.

The way that Middleton crossed her legs at the ankles in the photo was described by the expert as a pseudo-infantile, self-diminishing gesture.

“In contrast, her facial expression as she gazed at him seemed to be throwing up something of a loving challenge while his softened features really did for the look of love,” she said.
