They aren’t known for showing as much PDA as Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, but a relationship expert claims that it doesn’t mean Prince William and Kate Middleton’s relationship is any less affectionate and fun.

In an interview on The Royal Box, Behavioral Psychologist Jo Hemmings said that while it isn’t necessarily obvious to casual observers, the relationship between parents to Princes George and Louis and Princess Charlotte is definitely more fun.

“It’s a very respectful relationship. There’s a lot of fun in it, but we don’t always see the fun,” she said.

Hemmings revealed that the couple does seem to give each other loving looks while out in public, but that their being in line for the throne might be part of the reason why they behave with more decorum in public. While Harry and Meghan are considered highly unlikely to ever become King and Queen since they are further down in the line of succession than William and Kate, who are next in line after Prince Charles.

However, any formal appearance of their relationship shouldn’t be taken as meaning that the couple isn’t happily married.

“Often Kate is teasing him, he takes it on the chin,” Hemmings said. “She’s adapted to that regal pre-Queen role already. They’re not particularly tactile, but here’s that look. They just seem genuinely happy together.”

In addition, the couple has also been together a much longer time, and Hemmings noted that Prince William tends to be more private about his relationship because he met his wife while they were still in college, and there had been a media ban on him while he was receiving his education.

“They met at university and they had all that time when they were in their late teens,” she said. I think they are extraordinarily well-suited.”

Conversely, Prince Harry met Meghan Markle while he was in his 30s, and unlike Middleton, who came from a far more normal background, she also had a career as an actress prior to her joining the royal family. As a result, the two are generally more open with their affection in public because they were never subjected to the same rules that applied during the earlier days of Prince William and Kate Middleton’s romance.
