They have been said to want to give their children as much of a normal life as they can, especially since their oldest will one day be the King of England. However, some are beginning to wonder if Kate Middleton and Prince William’s decision to keep the truth from Prince George about what his future holds will wind up being a huge mistake.

According to Hollywood Cheat Sheet, the 6-year-old may need to be told the truth from his parents sooner rather than later, as his being of school age means there is a bigger risk someone else could reveal the truth to him instead, which would pose a problem for his parents. In addition, there is the risk he may figure it out on his own as well, which has led to some urging the royal couple to reveal the truth to their son.

“It will be, nevertheless, part of his upbringing both in terms of what he sees his parents and grandparents doing and probably quite soon a beginning of an understanding that he is in public life and what that means,” writer Catherine Mayer said.

Of course, the couple does have their reasons for why they aren’t exposing their son to the truth just yet because Prince William knows from his own experience about the responsibility that comes from knowing what the future holds, as he dealt with it on his own as a young boy. While learning led to him forming a closer bond with his grandmother, it still left him not having as normal an existence as he might have craved.

“It’s no secret that she and Charles have had a prickly relationship at times,” Royal Historian Robert Lacey said. “When William became a teenager, she would have him at Windsor Castle and would open the state boxes and guide him through the papers. It was William’s constitutional education.”
