Kate Middleton is Queen Elizabeth II’s new favorite while Meghan Markle has been sidelined.

The Queen and the Duchess of Sussex share a close bond. In fact, Her Majesty gave Markle many favors in the past. For instance, in just a few weeks after her royal wedding to Prince Harry, Markle received an invite from the Queen for their first outing together, which took almost a year to happen for Middleton.

However, in the past months, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex have been plagued by a string of controversies due to their lifestyle and continuous effort to maintain their privacy despite being public figures. According to Milly Haddrick of New Idea, after months of scandals, Middleton has become the Queen’s new favorite.

Last week, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge arrived in Balmoral to join the monarch for her summer break in her favorite home. Prince William and Middleton took a commercial flight along with their three children Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis.

A day after their arrival, Prince William and Middleton were spotted joining Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip for lunch. The duchess dressed down and opted to recycle a $160 knitted sweater by Fjallraven. She paired it with jeans. She was also photographed carrying a backpack.

On Sunday, Queen Elizabeth II and Middleton reunited again and shared the same ride on the way to Crathie Kirk to attend the Sunday service. The two royals were relaxed and they looked happy.

According to body language expert Judi James, the Queen seemed pleased to be with Middleton amid the criticisms and scandals plaguing the royal family due to the different controversies involving Prince Harry, Markle and Prince Andrew. The expert felt that Middleton was as happy as the Queen and the Duchess of Cambridge had no plans to upstage her royal grandmother-in-law.

Middleton has always been careful to recognize her rank in the monarchy. She never made any effort to be the center of attention and according to royal expert Ashley Pearson, this is one of the reasons the Queen is “very fond” of Middleton.

“She likes her middle-class values. She likes that she’s close to her family,” Pearson said of the Queen’s feelings towards Middleton. “Kate has never tried to garner extra attention for herself. There’s nothing flashy or showy.”
