Kate Middleton Suffers This Embarrassing Incident While On Royal Tour
Kate Middleton suffered from an embarrassing incident while she was on her royal tour with Prince William years ago.
Kara Godfrey, a journalist for Express, revealed that the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge visited Canada for their first trip as a married couple. While there, they also went to Quebec, Calgary, and Alberta.
Upon her arrival at the Calgary airport, Middleton suffered from an awkward incident that saw her yellow Jenny Packham dress getting caught by the wind. When she stepped out of the plane, Middleton didn’t expect how windy it was so she was unable to hold her skirt.
Middleton’s skirt blew up and exposed parts of her waist. The mom of three then held her skirt and pushed it down to make sure that the incident won’t happen again.
Royals face the same problem every time it is windy and they are out in public. On Oct. 12, Lady Louise Windsor’s skirt blew up, exposing her undergarments, while she was assisting the bridesmaids up the stairs on Princess Eugenie’s wedding day.
Stewart Parvin, Queen Elizabeth II’s designer, revealed that royals wear weighted skirts to make sure that they won’t suffer from the wardrobe malfunction in public.
“Sometimes, if she is wearing a lightweight chiffon skirt, I will sew a smaller lead weight the size of a pea or even a length of chain,” she told Daily Mail (via Harper's Bazaar).
Gordon Rayner, a journalist for The Telegraph, echoed Parvin’s revelation.
“All of the Queen’s skirts are weighted to avoid them blowing up as she gets off airplanes,” he said.
Angela Kelly, a senior dress designer, is the one responsible for planning what the Queen will wear during her royal engagements. It is also Kelly’s responsibility to ensure that whatever Her Majesty will wear won’t clash with the backdrops.
“Kelly will check whether the Queen will be expected to take off her shoes (in a mosque, for example) or might require a headscarf – anything that could lead to trouble if not anticipated,” he said.
