Queen Elizabeth II made Kate Middleton wait for almost a decade for the same privilege she immediately gave to Meghan Markle.

The Duchess of Cambridge waited long to score a solo engagement with Queen Elizabeth II. Meanwhile, Markle immediately enjoyed the privilege when the monarch invited her to join her on an engagement in Cheshire in just a few weeks after she tied the knot with Prince Harry. According to royal biographer Angela Levin, the two ladies got along very well and the Queen loves the fact that Markle is “self-made.”

“The Queen admires the fact that Meghan is self-made and was keen to show her the ropes. The Duchess of Cambridge waited much longer after her wedding for a similar invitation,” Levin wrote.

“Her Majesty and Meghan travelled over night on the Royal Train to Cheshire where they opened the Mersey Gateway Bridge and Chester’s Storehouse Theatre. Meghan was flustered about whether she or the Queen should get in the royal car first. The Queen stood back and Meghan stepped inside. Apart from that small snag they seem to enjoy being together,” she added.

Levin pointed out that Middleton visited King’s College London to open the Bush House building for her first ever solo outing with the Queen earlier this year. Middleton only scored a solo engagement with the Queen eight years after her royal wedding to Prince William. Middleton accompanied the Queen in honor of her Diamond Jubilee in March 2012. However, it was not a solo engagement because Prince Philip was in attendance too.

In related news, Prince Harry and Markle are spending Christmas in Los Angeles with the duchess’ mom Doria Ragland. Buckingham Palace already confirmed this and according to the spokesperson, the Queen was reportedly supportive of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s decision to spend Christmas away from the royal family.

According to royal biographer Ingrid Seward, the couple’s decision hurt the Queen. But Her Majesty is too gracious to show her emotions.
