Kate Middleton will "not forget" how she was treated by Meghan Markle following the latter's bombshell interview with Oprah Winfrey last year, a royal expert has claimed.
Royal author Ingrid Seward, editor-in-chief of Majesty Magazine, recently weighed in on the relationship between the Duchess of Cambridge and the Duchess of Sussex, one year after Markle claimed during her sit-down with Winfrey that it was Middleton who made her cry in the run-up to her wedding to Prince Harry.
Seward told U.K.'s Mirror that if Markle and Prince Harry return to the U.K. in the summer to take part in celebrations for Queen Elizabeth's Platinum Jubilee, she believes the former actress and Middleton will be cordial but suggested that it is unlikely for Prince William's wife to forget Markle's accusations against her.
"The Duchess of Cambridge will be cordial to Meghan. She will be sure to be photographed kissing or hugging her. She has to - that is part of her job. Her private feelings have to remain just that," Seward claimed.
"Kate will not forget, however, how Meghan treated her. But she knows there is no point in prolonging a feud that has the opportunity of being repaired. The Platinum Jubilee is just that chance," the royal expert continued.
Seward also suggested that Middleton could act as a "peacemaker" between her husband Prince William and his brother Prince Harry amid their rumored feud.
"Being royal is all about appearances, not private feelings. It always has been throughout history. It is what the Queen has spent 70 years perfecting and she expects her family to do the same," the author continued.
Middleton and Markle were pitted against each other after the latter married Prince Harry and joined the royal family in 2018, but royal fans had expected them to form a friendship as they were close in age. However, the two duchesses may not have had enough time to build their relationship as less than two years after joining the firm, Markle, along with Prince Harry, quit her role as senior working royal and moved to California.
During their interview with Winfrey last year, Markle claimed that the tabloid reports alleging that she made Middleton cry during an argument over bridesmaid dresses were not true because "the reverse happened."
"Everyone in the institution knew it wasn't true," the former "Suits" star claimed, adding: "The reverse happened. ... Kate was upset about something, but she owned it, and she apologized."
Markle said she had already forgiven her sister-in-law after the latter sent her flowers and a note to apologize. The Duchess of Sussex also complimented Middleton, describing her as a "good person."
Prince Harry and Markle also made other claims against the royal family during the interview, including that an unnamed member of the royal family allegedly raised "concerns" over their then-unborn child's skin tone. The prince also claimed that his father Prince Charles cut them off financially after he announced his decision to step down as a working royal.
Seward claimed that the Queen and Prince Charles will likely never forget that interview as well but that both are aware there is "nothing to gain" from shutting Prince Harry and Markle out of the Jubilee celebrations.
"When Princess Diana criticized her husband and his family in her Panorama interview, it was the end of not only her marriage but any kind of honest relationship with her husband’s family. I suspect that the Duke and Duchess of Sussex are experiencing a similar situation," the "Prince Philip Revealed: A Man of his Century" author told the Mirror.
Seward further claimed, "The Queen knows better than anyone there is nothing to be gained by open hostility. She is always prepared to forgive if not forget."
The major celebrations for the Platinum Jubilee, which marks Queen Elizabeth's 70th year on the throne, will begin on June 2 and will continue over the weekend until June 5.
The planned festivities for the British monarch's Platinum Jubilee include Trooping the Colour (the annual celebration of the Queen's birthday), the lighting of the Platinum Jubilee beacons, a service of Thanksgiving at St. Paul's Cathedral, the Derby at Epsom Downs, a live concert called "Platinum Party at the Palace," the Big Jubilee Lunch and the Platinum Jubilee Pageant.
There will also be a giant slide installed at the Tower of London as part of an impressive floral display. A carnival featuring 5,000 performers and a dragon float the size of an iconic red bus will be held in London as well.
