A royal expert was convinced that Kate Middleton would join the royal family years before she even got engaged to Prince William.
The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge had a long courtship. They started out as pals, and their friendship blossomed into romance in 2003. They announced their engagement on Oct. 20, 2010.
However, royal editor Rebecca English claimed on Channel 5’s new documentary “William & Kate: Too Good To Be True” that she knew Middleton would be the future queen consort as early as 2006, almost four years before their engagement. English highlighted a key event that gave her the idea about the duchess’ fate.
For English, the turning point was Middleton’s presence during Prince William’s graduation in 2006. She also pointed out that Middleton was not alone at the event as she was accompanied by her parents, Michael and Carole Middleton.
“We hadn't expected Kate and her family to turn up, and myself and a number of photographers and journalists were all standing on a press stand together,” English said.
“Suddenly out of the corner of her eye we saw Kate and her mother and father being ushered down to the front of the seating. I remember turning to the person next to me and saying that's it, it's a done deal. This woman is going to be our future Queen,” she recalled.
Royal expert Victoria Arbiter pointed out that the event also sparked engagement rumors. She believes that at the time, there was “intense pressure” on the couple to walk down the aisle soon.
Meanwhile, there have been claims that Middleton switched schools to be with Prince William at St. Andrews. However, according to royal correspondent Simon Vigar, Middleton was one of the few girls who didn’t chase Prince William.
“When they were at University of St Andrews, I have it on good authority that one of the few girls not chasing William was Catherine. If that's true, she played an absolute blinder,” he said. “He was definitely the target of lots of Sloaney girls there at university, but it wasn't until the infamous fashion show that William noticed Catherine.”
In the same documentary, several biographers said that Middleton’s family played an important role in her romance with Prince William. The Middleton family apparently served as a “salve” for the future king.
