The Buckingham Palace display of the wedding dress worn by the Duchess of Cambridge, aka Kate Middleton, has drawn more than 600,000 people from all over the world.

The open season, which was an incredible success with a 50 percent increase from last year's visitor count, lasted 73 days from late July to Oct. 3.

Visitors paid 17.50 pounds (about $27) to see the dress, adding four pounds to cover the royal mews and Queen's gallery. Palace gift shops could collect more money, according to The Telegraph.

The gains from the annual opening of the grand gates will be used for maintaining the Royal Collection buildings and works of art.

Kate Middleton married Prince William on April 29. Around one million people lined the streets of London to see the couple that day.

After being exhibited at Buckingham Palace, Middleton's dress will be stored away to be properly preserved, People magazine reports.

The wedding fever also drove visitors to other royal palaces -- 680,000 people visited Windsor Castle from April to September, and 152,000 people visited Edinburgh's Holyroodhouse, the site of Zara Phillips' royal wedding reception in July.
