British supermodel Kate Moss is expected to be called to the stand this week in Johnny Depp’s defamation trial against Amber Heard, reports have claimed. Here's a look at Moss' career, relationship with Depp and net worth.
One of the highest-earning models of all time, Moss is worth $70 million, according to Celebrity Net Worth. During her peak years, she easily earned well over $10 million annually, the outlet said.
The now-48-year-old fashion icon began her modeling career in 1988 at age 14. She gained instant stardom three years later when she posed topless, wearing a pair of blue jeans, in a Levi's campaign.
Despite a drug abuse scandal in the early 2000s, Moss continued to sign endorsement deals with brands such as Virgin Mobile, Burberry and Topshop. She also continued to appear on the cover of magazines and partner with brands like Chanel, Balenciaga, Dolce & Gabbana and Bulgari, among many others.
In 2007, Moss designed her own clothing line for Topshop, from which she reportedly earned £3 million (currently $3.7 million). She designed a second clothing line for Topshop in 2014 and established a long-running partnership with the retailer into the future.
Moss had an annual income of $7 million in 2014, according to Forbes. This figure also included her earnings from campaigns for St. Tropez self-tan and Kerastase haircare products as well as an endorsement deal with luxury jeweler David Yurman.
Outside of her modeling career, Moss also has her own perfume lines. In addition, she has appeared in a wide range of music videos and taken on various acting roles over the years.
Moss dated Depp between 1994 and 1997, before the "Pirates of the Caribbean" actor moved on with French singer-actress Vanessa Paradis, the mother of his two kids.
Depp is suing Heard for $50 million over a 2018 op-ed she wrote for The Washington Post about surviving domestic abuse. It did not mention Depp by name, but the actor argues that it damaged his reputation and career.
During the ongoing trial, the "Aquaman" star suddenly brought up Moss while testifying earlier this month, as Heard alleged the actor once pushed the model down the stairs.
On Monday, the New York Post reported, citing unnamed sources with knowledge of the matter, that Moss will testify via video link Wednesday in the Fairfax, Virginia, courtroom. The model has not publicly commented on the report.
During her testimony, Moss could dispel the rumor that Depp pushed her down a flight of stairs when the two dated, legal experts cited by the outlet suggested.
Moss has never publicly accused Depp of hurting her, and she has never spoken out about Heard's claims of domestic violence against Depp. But the model previously commented about her experience dating the actor.
“There’s nobody that’s ever really been able to take care of me. Johnny did for a bit,” she told Vanity Fair in 2012. “I believed what he said. Like if I said, ‘What do I do?,’ he’d tell me. And that’s what I missed when I left. I really lost that gauge of somebody I could trust.”
