Kate Upton Will Attend Met Gala With Designer Michael Kors
The highly-anticipated Met Gala takes place Monday night and one of the fashion industry's newest and hottest models will be linked to the arm of one of its coolest designers.
Kate Upton will attend the 2012 Met Gala with none other than Michael Kors. The classic Americana designer reportedly invited Upton, whose popularity has skyrocketed since her Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Edition cover.
The New York Post initially reported that supermodel went to the Vogue offices and whipped out her checkbook to write Anna Wintour a $25,000 for her ticket to the Met Gala.
However, Elle.com corrected the story, stating that Kate Upton did not purchase her own ticket.
Most people do not buy tickets, especially not models. Brands buy tables for hundreds of thousands of dollars and invite their faces and a few celebrities to join them on the big night...which is exactly what happened here. The part that the Post does get right is that Upton will be sat at Michael Kors' table, along with the designer, Jessica Alba, Hillary Swank and Liu Wen. 'We invited her to join us,' a source at Michael Kors said of Upton this afternoon. 'The Post story is BS,' Elle.com reported.
Other actresses who will wear Michael Kors and who will sit at the designer's table include Jessica Alba, Hillary Swank and Liu Wen.
Michael Kors is quite excited about the New York City gala. Can't wait for the Met Ball tonight! The most glamorous night of the year in NYC. #metgala, the 52-year-old designer tweeted on Monday.
The 2012 Met Gala, otherwise known as the Met Ball or the Oscars of the East Coast, is an annual fete that features the world's best red carpet. The Vogue-hosted gala is the top social event of the year in New York City. Each year there is an allocated theme for the evening of cocktails and a formal dinner. The Hollywood Reporter reported that the theme of the 2012 Met Ball is Schiaparelli and Prada: Impossible Conversations, inspired by Miguel Covarrubia's Impossible Interviews published in Vanity Fair in the 1930s.
This year, the Met Gala will be live streamed. The Telegraph reported that model Elettra Wiedemann and journalist William Norwich will host the live coverage which is set to stream on Amazon, Vogue and the Metropolitan Museum of Art websites on May 7 from 6:30 pm to 8:30 pm EST.
