Kate Winslet Reveals Drama Teacher Once Told Her To Settle For Fat Girl Parts
Kate Winslet has dedicated her recent BAFTA award to women who become subjects of criticisms and recounted a time when she was also criticized for her looks.
Winslet won the Best Supporting Actress award for her role in the movie “Steve Jobs” during the British Academy Film Awards, or the BAFTAs, held in London’s Royal Opera House on Sunday. During her backstage interview, Winslet gave a motivational message to young women and encouraged them to never lose hope and to go for their dreams, according to Entertainment Weekly. She also shared an interesting story where she once received a negative feedback on the way she looked.
“When I was younger, when I was only 14, I was told by a drama teacher that I might do okay if I was happy to settle for the fat girl parts. Look at me now! Look at me now,” Winslet stated.
She also left an inspiring message and asked young women who have experienced similar criticisms not to “listen to any of it.” Winslet explained that it was what she did and that she just kept on going forward to achieve her dreams. “I overcame all of my fears, and I got over a lot of insecurity. And just keep doing it, and keep believing in yourself,” she added.
“The Holiday” actress also mentioned that all the young women who doubt themselves should stop thinking that way. “You shouldn’t be doubting. You should just be going for it,” Winslet urged.
Meanwhile, the actress’ “Titanic” co-star Leonardo DiCaprio was also a big winner during the recently held BAFTA awards. DiCaprio bagged the Best Actor award for his role in “The Revenant,” while the movie also took home several awards such as Best Movie, Best Director, Best Sound and Best Cinematography. However, one of the highlights of the event was Winslet and DiCarpio’s longtime friendship and support during the ceremony.
When Winslet was announced Best Supporting Actress during the BAFTA awards, the actress took a quick moment to grab DiCaprio’s hand as she made her way toward the stage, Evening Standard reported. The touching scene was also noticed by fans who took to Twitter to share their thoughts at the gesture.
Some found the moment cute, while others commented that it was sad that Winslet and DiCaprio did not end up together. There were also a few who complimented the two for being supportive of each other and described the two stars’ relationship as the “highest friendship goals.”
