Katey Sagal Reveals Weird Way She Realized 'Married With Children' Was Successful
The hit TV series "Married... With Children" celebrates its 34th anniversary this week and Katey Sagal is remembering her time on the Fox show.
Sagal is making the promotional rounds for her new television show "Rebel" which included a stop on "Jimmy Kimmel Live!" on Wednesday.
As People reported, Sagal discovered the 1980s-90s sitcom was a hit in a unique way. The 67-year-old revealed to Kimmel, "I think the first time we knew is when they bought me a wig. Because for the first three years I would just do my own hair, and then all of the sudden they start dishing out money, like wigs are not cheap. They got me a wig."
Sagal was also stunned by the response of the series when she went on a promotional tour with then co-star Ed O'Neill.
"I'll never forget Ed and I went on a promo tour and we went into some parade and there we are dressed as Peg and Al. It was wild. We were waving and there were so many people there and we thought no one was really going to watch it because it was so irreverent and it was so not like anything else on TV, which is why I thought I got the job because I wasn't like anything else on TV," she said.
Fox aired the show three nights in a row so it was definitely hard to miss. "Married... With Children" ran from April 5, 1987, to June 9, 1997.
Following the sitcom, Sagal went on to star in numerous projects, including "Sons of Anarchy," "Futurama," "8 Simple Rules," and many other series.
You can watch Sagal in the new ABC drama "Rebel" which premieres Thursday at 10 p.m. EDT.
