Katherine Heigl on 'Grey's Anatomy' Void: 'I Miss It'

Will Izzie Stevens return to Seattle Grace? Will Alex Karev take her back?
Before these questions can be answered, Katherine Heigl will have to wait and see if Grey's Anatomy creator Shonda Rhimes will take her back.
Two years after leaving the ABC medical drama, Heigl wants to re-join the show, now in its eighth season.
I miss it. I miss my friends. It was a great work environment in that we all got along really well. It becomes a family. I spent six years with these people every day. We grew up in a way, she said on The View on Monday, adding that she was sorry she left Grey's.
Heigl, 33, has been on quite vocal in her campaign to return to the show. From the premiere of her latest film, One for the Money, to the ladies of The View, Heigl has been bold about her intentions to reprise her role as Stevens.
I really, really, really want to see where [Izzie] is. I just want to know what happened to her and where she went and what she's doing now, Heigl told E! News last week.
Fans of Grey's Anatomy know Stevens as the blonde pretty girl who experienced everything from cutting the LVAD wire to her bed-ridden boyfriend Denny (Season 2), to having a relationship with her best friend George, to having Stave IV metastatic melanoma, to leaving Seattle and divorcing Alex Karev.
In 2007, Heigl's portrayal of Stevens earned her the Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Supporting Actress (Drama).

But Heigl's six seasons with the show was not always a smooth run.
Take 2008, for example. During the Emmy race that year, Heigl publicly announced that she had no intention of putting her name up for a nomination.
I did not feel that I was given the material this season to warrant an Emmy nomination and in an effort to maintain the integrity of the academy organization, I withdrew my name from contention, she said in a statement at the time.
During Heigl's final season with Grey's Anatomy, the actress was noticeably absent from a chunk of the storyline. After months of speculation on why Heigl lost screen time (tardiness, her booming movie career and motherhood, to name a few), she was released from her duties as Izzie Stevens in spring 2010.
I am done. We just finalized our agreement. Everyone had been working really hard to find an amicable and gracious way of letting go and moving on. It's sad but it's what I wanted, Heigl told Entertainment Weekly.
So, Shonda Rhimes, if you've been watching daytime television or reading entertainment news headlines, the ball's in your court.
I want them to know that I'm down with it if they want me to. But I completely understand if it doesn't necessarily work. They've got a lot of storylines going on there, Heigl said on The View.
The next episode of Grey's Anatomy airs on Thursday on ABC.
One for the Money, starring Heigl, John Leguizamo and Jason O'Mara, opens on Friday.
